Projector Bulb – Just Like the Movies

A projector is a machine that will project slides or other visual material onto a screen. A projector requires a projector bulb to function. There are different types of projectors and each requires a different type projector bulb.

Types

A projector bulb that is used for a slide projector one of the main elements of a slide projector is a projector bulb. For a slide projector an incandescent bulb is the type of projector bulb that is used. Usually the incandescent projector bulb is fan cooled to keep it from getting too hot and causing damage to the rest of the components of the projector.

Movie projectors typically use a xenon arc lamp for a projector bulb. This type of projector bulb has been around for awhile and relies on xenon gas compressed at high rates to operate.

Over head projectors are favored in the classroom and use a diachronic reflector projector bulb. This type of projector bulb looks like a flood light. This is also a fan cooled incandescent light, but it has reflective material built into the bulb.

With new technology has come a new type of projector bulb, LED technology has produced a LED projector bulb, this type of projector bulb primarily geared toward use in home projectors has not really caught on, because of the brightness factor. The LED projector bulb tends to have a yellowish cast to it and can disrupt the colors of the images being projected. Over time with technological improvements the LED projector bulb may improve, they are cheaper to use and have a longer life, so if the improvements can be made to the color they project than they will become very popular alternatives to the incandescent bulbs.

Cost Of A Projector Bulb

A projector bulb is costly. The prices range between fifteen and one hundred dollars. Usually the life span is not that great either, but most of the home use is not excessive so the bulb does not burn out as quickly, usually business and school applications will go through bulbs much quicker.

Purchasing a Projector Bulb

A projector bulb can be purchased directly from the manufacturer of the projector or through some office supply stores. Some are very easy to find some are not. There are online sources for finding a projector bulb. The series make and model will be needed to make sure you order the correct projector bulb. A projector bulb is usually pretty specific to a given model so there really is not a lot of lead way in purchasing generic options.
